From TagIt to Hovermarks: why we rebranded

We're now Hovermarks. Here's what changed, what didn't, and why the new name does a better job of describing the product.

By Hovermarks team

When we started, we built one thing. A way to print a QR code, stick it on an asset, and have an inspector scan it to run a checklist. That was the product. The name, TagIt, described it perfectly.

The product has grown since then. Customers generate corrective work orders, cost out maintenance, and run signed PDF certificate flows for landlords and insurers. They roll up Green, Amber and Red risk levels across multiple sites. They pipe inspection photos into Azure-native AI for defect detection. "TagIt" stopped describing what we are.

So we changed it.

What's new

  • Name. TagIt is now Hovermarks.
  • Brand. Deep navy, electric teal, a more confident B2B tone.
  • Domains. hovermarks.com for US visitors, hovermarks.co.uk for UK. Old tagit and hovermark.co.uk links 301 to the right place. APIs are unchanged.
  • Positioning. From "QR-tag your stuff" to a multi-tenant inspection, compliance, and maintenance platform for multi-site teams.

What hasn't changed

Your data. Same UK-hosted tenants. Same encryption. Same retention.

Your contract. The legal entity behind Hovermarks is the same one you signed with as TagIt. The rebrand doesn't reset terms.

Your URLs and logins. Existing customer URLs continue to work.

Why "Hovermarks"

A mark is the proof. The signed certificate. The QR code on the asset. The green tick in the dashboard. The thing you can point at when an auditor asks. Hover is how you get to it. Fast, weightless, from anywhere. It's also a quiet nod to the way multi-site operations work in 2026. Not tied to a desk. Not tied to a clipboard.

The plural matters. Customers carry away a portfolio of signed evidence from the platform, one mark per inspection. Marks, not a mark.

We picked the name we wished we'd chosen on day one. On day one we didn't, because we didn't know what we were building yet. Now we do.

What's coming next

Photo-based defect detection is in early access for Professional customers. A document intelligence pipeline that ingests legacy PDF certificates and back-fills the asset register, so no one has to double-key. A native Power Automate connector for orgs deep in the Microsoft ecosystem.

Existing customer? You don't need to do anything. Been watching from the sidelines? This is the moment.
